Abstract

Background and Objective: Since the mid-3rd century AH, Persian poetry has incorporated Quranic and Hadith teachings as tools for religious, moral, and later mystical expression. Anvari, a 6th-century AH poet, was well-versed in the sciences of his time and skillfully wove Quranic verses, Hadiths, parables, and moral tales into his poetry. This study examines how Anvari integrated these religious sources into his works. Methods: A qualitative descriptive approach was used, drawing on library-based research and textual analysis.Findings: Anvari showed restraint in his use of religious references, employing Quranic verses and Hadiths to both enrich meaning and enhance literary style. His poetry displays a stronger emphasis on Quranic elements than on Hadith. Among rhetorical techniques, iqtibas (direct allusion) was most frequent, while tazmin (inclusion of external text) was rare. Conclusion: Anvari's work reflects a creative and thoughtful engagement with sacred texts. He used religious content not only to praise and moralize but also to criticize social corruption through satire and vivid imagery. His unique ability to transform Quranic and Hadith material into poetic innovation underscores the depth of his literary and theological insight.
