Abstract

The results of previous studies have shown that applying novelization teaching method can be an appropriate for improving students' academic and thinking skills. Accordingly, the aim of this study was to determine the effectiveness of the novelization teaching method on creativity and essay writing skills of elementary school students. The present research method was a semi-experimental, with a pre-test and post-test design and a control group. The statistical population consisted of all fifth-grade female elementary school students in Chabahar, Iran in 2023, among whin thirty eligible students entered the study through convenience sampling and were randomly assigned to the experimental and control groups (fifteen students in each group). Both groups completed the Abedi Creativity Assessment Questionnaire (Abedi, 1993) and the Essay Scoring Checklist (Vakil-ol-Tojar, 2016) in the pre-test and post-test stages. The creative teaching method was implemented on the experimental group in six 60-minute sessions, each session twice a week. The control group also received the traditional classroom method. Data analysis was performed using the analysis of covariance method in SPSS version 27 software. The results showed that there was a significant difference in both creativity and essay writing skills between the experimental and control groups in the post-test, after removing the pre-test effect (p<0.001). Also, the creative teaching method improved 85% of students' creativity and 75% of students' essay writing skills. Based on the research findings, it is concluded that using the creative teaching method for elementary school students is a suitable method for improving their creativity and essay writing skills.
