Determining the effectiveness of Synectics teaching method on the creativity and Essay writing skills of primary school students

Abstract

Background and Objectives: The results of previous researches have shown that the use of innovative teaching method can be a suitable teaching method to improve students' academic and thinking skills. According to this, this study aimed to determine the effectiveness of Synectics teaching method on the creativity and essay writing skills of primary school students. Methods: The method of the current research was semi-experimental with a pre-test and post-test design with a control group. The statistical population of this research consisted of all female students of the fifth grade of primary school in Chabahar city in 2023. Among the statistical population, 30 people were selected as the research sample using available sampling method and and randomly assigned to two experimental and control groups (each group includes 15 people). Both groups completed the Abedi Creativity Questionnaire (Abedi, 1993) and Essay Scoring Checklist (Vakilaltojar, 2015) in the pre-test and post-test phases. Synectics teaching method was implemented in the experimental group as a 6 session’s 60–minute and every session twice a week. During this period, the control group received conventional and traditional classroom training. Data analysis was carried out in two parts: descriptive statistics and inferential statistics.
