Examining the characteristics of images and colors in the eighth grade Persian textbook and their relationship with the lesson text

Abstract

Educational textbook images, as a producer of meaning and a source of interpretation and interpretation of the text, if accompanied by appropriate color and design, can have positive and meaningful effects on students' understanding, feelings, and behavior. The purpose of the present study is to analyze and investigate the characteristics of the images and colors used in the eighth grade Persian textbook and the extent of their relationship with the course text and how they affect the level of learning and understanding of concepts by students.The research method is a library data collection method and in terms of collection method, it is qualitative and of the type of content analysis, and the sampling method is a complete count; that is, all eighth grade Persian images and the colors used in them were examined. The findings show that a total of 85 percent of the images are related to the course text in various ways, including part of the text, most of the text, and symbolic, and eleven color ranges were used in the book's images. Conclusion: The results show that among the values ​​contained in the images, naturalism and its expression of beauty and wonder, with 29 percent, has the highest frequency among other values, which is in line with making concepts tangible and giving students an identity. Also, the green color spectrum, with a frequency of 21 percent, is the most used color and with a frequency of 12, is the most dominant color in the images, which creates peace, strengthens religious beliefs, hope and cheerfulness, and instills a sense of self-confidence in students. 76 percent of the dominant colors are closely related to the lesson text, with the green, brown, and blue color spectrums having a higher frequency compared to other colors, respectively.
