Abstract

One aspect of reading poetry correctly, and also enjoying it more, is knowing and correctly recognizing meter and prosody. Discussions about meter and rhythm in poetry have a history almost as old as poetry and poetry itself, and numerous articles and books have been written on the subject since the past, all of which demonstrate the importance of this basic knowledge. In this article, the author has tried to present a new approach to the division of verse based on its initial syllable, while studying and paying attention to all previous and contemporary books in the field of prosody, and consequently, a more accurate identification of meter and rhythm. It goes without saying that the most difficult part after breaking down a poem and determining its meter and rhythm is related to the division, that is, determining the limits and boundaries of prosody effects and, subsequently, determining the correct meter and rhythm. The main focus of this article is to address this issue.when scansion begins with two short syllables, the first foot of the verse, according to this method, is either faʿilātun or faʿilun.
